The ring magnet sits on the rear motor shaft. The Hall effect sensor from the speed board reads this magnet as it spins to help set speeds. If the magnet is broken, cracked or missing, it will result in erratic speeds or the mixer running full speed immediately when its turned on followed by the motor powering off.
